Typically a roof window or velux window conversion consists of structural main beam supports & a structural floor. This is because in nearly all cases the existing ceiling is not designed to carry the loads that a new room will create, a suitable amount of roof windows, purpose made staircase, electrical works including lights, sockets & mains wired smoke detectors & plumbing works if required.
All walls & ceilings are fully insulated & ventilated & covered with plasterboard & a plaster skim finish where specified, also skirting boards, architraves & doors are fitted. To comply with current building regulations a fire escape route or means of escape needs to be created. To achieve this, doors to all habitable rooms need to be upgraded to fire doors & this can be achieved by either removing & replacing the existing doors with fire doors or by using fire resistant paints & or varnishes which we will supply if required to be done by yourselves as part of the decoration process, although this can be carried out by ourselves if required.
